TALK SERIES - OPEN CALL
COMING SOON
What stories do you want to share?
The Mexican Museum presents entretanto—a series of talks that reflect on the Latinx artistic experience in the United States. These talks will encompass different themes and speakers to reflect, discuss, and explore the experiences and mechanisms shared by artists, curators, writers, musicians, poets, etc. who self-identify with Latinx, Chicanx, Mexican-American, and Mexican communities.
We are welcoming entries from artists, writers, poets, musicians, and anyone who reflects on the identities of the communities that are aligned with the museum’s mission, an effort to explore visual representations of the complexity and richness of the art and the history of the Latinx, Chicanx, Mexican American and Mexican communities in the United States.
The format is designed to be interdisciplinary, with sessions that could include panels, presentations, and performances. The Mexican Museum’s mission within these talks is to provide a space as the organizer and host of the talks.
entretanto will be an ongoing art talk program series running from 2022 onwards. These art talks are a continuation of the educational logistic operations museums have adapted to since 2020. The Mexican Museum art talks—entretanto— refers to the time “in-between” two events. This name alludes to the impasse of time that the museum exhibitions and educational programs will stay virtual until the new museum building is available. They are as well an approach to broader audiences who do not necessarily reside in the Bay Area. entretanto also translates as “something in-between many things” referring to the multiplicity of themes these talks intend to address.
We want to listen to your ideas and your contribution to the Latinx arts and culture
This initiative is part of the museum’s campaign to raise cultural awareness and to support artists to gain presence and representation within the country and the world. We wish to continue with the artistic dialogue that the museum has inherited since its birth in 1975. We also encourage you to visit our website to familiarize yourself with The Mexican Museum’s history, as well as with its exhibitions and educational programs.
