Open to the public beginning June 24, 2016.

Cinco y Cinco/Five and Five invites five artists who have garnered regional, national, and international acclaim to each nominate another artist for inclusion in the exhibition, as a means of extending opportunities to artists they deem worthy of greater recognition. The exhibition will include works in a variety of media by Victor Cartagena, Rolando Castellon, Adriana Castro, Ana de la Cueva, Lewis deSoto, Juan Jota Leaños, Gera Lozano, Geri Montano, Bernardo Roman Palau, and Gustavo Ramos Rivera. The exhibition references how much ground has been broken, covered, and achieved by Latino artists as a result of institutions like The Mexican Museum and other arts organizations that arose from the cultural struggles for recognition and social equality of the 1960s and '70s.

Curated by Anthony Torres, Cinco y Cinco/Five and Five explores connections, commonalities, and differences between the artists’ values, practices, and visual sensibilities, in an effort to articulate contemporary “Latino Art” as an ambiguous area of inquiry that moves beyond geography or ethnicity, in order to evidence linkages between artists’ aesthetic choices and the diverse histories and intellectual discourses that inform them.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a brochure, and programs that include artists in conversation with curator Anthony Torres.
